Robert Mueller vs. . . . Trump’s “fig leaves”?

June 28, 2019

“And the eyes of them both were opened, and they knew that they were naked; and they sewed fig leaves together, and made themselves aprons. . . . 11 And he said, Who told thee that thou wast naked? Hast thou eaten of the tree, whereof I commanded thee that thou shouldest not eat?” Gen. 3:7,11 KJV.

The top news story for the final week of June was not the two-day presidential debates, but rather the president’s debasing Robert Mueller’s July 17th congressional testimony - three weeks before the former special counsel utters a single word!

After his and his surrogates’ “no-collusion/obstruction of justice” declarations, the self-exonerated Trump still felt compelled to bash both prosecutor and process.

“In the beginning, . . .”

On May 17, 2017, when first informed of Mueller’s appointment, Trump profaned perhaps prophetically, “This is the end of my presidency. I'm f**ked."

Additionally, he gagged current and former staffers; stonewalled on releasing financial records; devalues constantly contrary facts and expertise; and belittles routinely insider-whistleblowers.

We the public and the media ask, Q:  What’s Trump trying desperately to hide?

Like Original Father, like Son?

Trump’s mimicking the exposed (and evicted) Adam in the Garden of Eden (Gen. 3:7,11), . . .

. . . but “45’s” not alone with “fig leaves.”

Stripping away our F.I.G. L.E.A.V.E.S.

Just like Adam and Eve’s response once self-exposed, each of us, when feeling the need to hide some vulnerability(s), dons aprons of figleaves - self-tailored, but not God-fashioned.

I’ve acronymed FIG LEAVES as:

  • Forgotten or

  • Ignored

  • God-voids, in our

  • Lives, that we cannot

  • Escape or even

  • Avoid, because we’re

  • Vulnerable to them, until and unless

  • Emmanuel (translated, “God with us”)

  • Saves us!

New Wardrobe

What are your fig leaves? What are you trying to hide behind - more academic degrees? Bigger adult toys? Flirtatiousness, more revealing clothes to mask our insecurities?

In his 1987 devotional book, His Healing Love, Dick Winn opined, “I believe that virtually everything we do that is either illegal, immoral, unkind, unethical, insensitive, or otherwise sinful, we do in a frantic and futile attempt to bolster our self-worth, protect our self-image, or defend our self-esteem. In varying degrees, we are all lonely, frightened people, trying to cling to our little scraps of self-worth.”

God’s all-embracing, never-out-of-style love is more than all the covering you and I will ever need.
